Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police detected a viral video on social media platform Threads on Wednesday (Sept 30) showing the chase involving the lorry.
He added that police had arrested a local man following the high-speed chase involving a suspected stolen lorry in the Tanjung Langsat industrial area in Pasir Gudang.
He said checks found that the lorry had earlier been reported missing and was suspected to have been stolen in the Plentong area.
“Members of the public contacted police after the lorry was spotted in the Tanjung Langsat industrial area.
“Acting on the information, police managed to locate the lorry but the suspect driving it refused to stop, resulting in a chase,” he said here on Wednesday (Sept 30).
ACP Mohd Sohaimi said the suspect, who is in his 30s, drove dangerously while attempting to evade the police and rammed a police patrol car.
He said the suspect was eventually arrested in the Pasir Gudang area where further inspections led to the discovery of a transparent packet containing a substance suspected to be drugs.
“Checks found that the suspect has 27 previous criminal and drug-related offences.
“An initial urine screening also returned positive for methamphetamine,” he said.
ACP Mohd Sohaimi added that the case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code and Section 186 of the same Act, Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1) of the same Act.
He added police would apply for a remand order against the suspect at a Johor Baru Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Oct 1) to facilitate further investigations.
