Recently, viral videos surfaced of crocodiles appearing in the waters of Manjung, Perak.

Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) is actively monitoring the waters around Kampung Sitiawan, Telaga Nenas, and Bukit Botak in Manjung following reports and complaints regarding crocodile sightings in the area.
Perak Perhilitan director Dr Pazil Abdul Patah confirmed that the monitoring was initiated after local residents lodged complaints, noting that there had been no prior official records of the reptiles in these specific locations.
Pazil clarified that the presence of crocodiles in a new area does not necessarily mean they were recently released or migrated permanently. Instead, their movements are influenced by factors such as tidal conditions, food availability, and habitat changes. Field observations and assessments are ongoing to confirm the exact species and causes for their appearance.
The monitoring comes after a 21-second video clip went viral on social media showing a crocodile at the three locations, raising safety concerns among local residents, particularly anglers and fishermen.
Warning signs will be installed in key areas where the reptiles are frequently seen, and Perhilitan is working closely with local authorities and communities to step up safety awareness.
Fishermen, anglers, and aquaculture operators in the affected waters are advised to stay vigilant, and the public is advised not to provoke, catch, or approach the reptiles for photos or videos.
The public is also urged not to spread unverified information and to report any new sightings directly to the Perhilitan hotline at 1-800-88-5151.
