QuickCheck: Is the former Health DG's name being misused to promote a 'miracle cream'?

DURING the Covid-19 pandemic, then-Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah was one of the most prominent figures in the public eye for his contributions to the nation's coronavirus-fighting efforts.

He may have stepped down from the position since, but certain quarters still seem intent on cashing in on his high profile to cheat others.

It is said that a Facebook account is now using his name and photograph to promote a “bee venom” cream, prompting Dr Noor Hisham to declare that he will sue those responsible.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

In a post on X on Sunday (Oct 5), Dr Noor Hisham said that such fake news is being circulated online on Facebook on an account pretending to be his.

“Let me be clear: these claims are completely false and I am taking immediate legal action against those responsible,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham added that this should serve as a warning for anyone engaging in such malicious acts.

“Please do not be fooled by this irresponsible misinformation,” he said.

He attached a screenshot of a post from the account, in which he is purportedly claiming to endorse a “Bee Venom Joint Healing Cream” and claiming that thousands of Malaysians are using it effectively.
