KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia must apply the hard-earned lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic to enhance its preparedness and strengthen its health systems, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The former Health director-general noted that five years after the pandemic lockdowns shook the nation, it is crucial to build healthier, more inclusive communities with universal equitable access to care.

"As we mark Tuesday (March 18), 2025, we reflect soberly on the challenges our nation endured five years ago today," he said.

"The onset of a historic lockdown during an unprecedented health and political crisis. This anniversary serves as a powerful reminder of resilience forged through adversity," he added in a post on his official Facebook page.

Dr Noor Hisham, who managed the unprecedented health crisis during his tenure, said Malaysia must channel the hard-earned lessons of the pandemic moving forward.

"This is to fortify our preparedness and strengthen health systems," he said.

"The crisis underscored the irreplaceable value of collaboration through unified government action and societal solidarity and the unwavering trust, responsibility, and cohesion demonstrated by frontline heroes," added Dr Noor Hisham.

He emphasised the importance of carrying forward this spirit of collective conscience and social responsibility as it unites the nation and keeps the country committed to shared progress.
