It was claimed recently that a “blood moon” or total lunar eclipse will be visible from Malaysia very soon.
Is this true?

TRUE
Yes, this is in fact true; in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 2), the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) said that a total lunar eclipse has been forecast for Sept 7–8, 2025 and it will be from 11.28pm to 4.55am Malaysia time.
In the post, the MYSA said that the penumbral phase is set to begin at 11.28pm, the partial phase will start at 12.26pm and totality is expected to be at1.30am.
“Maximum totality is expected at 2.11am and is predicted to end at 2.53am,” added the agency.
It then explained that a lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes between the Sun and Moon, casting Earth’s shadow across the lunar surface.
“At maximum totality, the Moon appears red or orange due to atmospheric refraction of sunlight, a phenomenon often called a blood moon,” said the MYSA.
It adds that the total eclipse is also visible from Europe, Africa, the rest of Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
“In Malaysia, all phases can be viewed with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
The overall duration, excluding penumbral phases, amounts to 3 hours 30 minutes, with totality lasting 1 hour and 22 minutes,” said the MYSA.
