QuickCheck: Is the Govt giving out RM1,500 cash aid to housewives, single mothers and senior citizens?

A CLAIM circulating on social media alleges that the government has approved RM1,500 cash aid for housewives, single mothers and senior citizens, with applications open from Aug 20 to 25.

The post has been spreading rapidly, with many Malaysians sharing it among family and friends who may qualify for the alleged assistance.

But is the government actually offering this cash aid?

Verdict:

FALSE

The Finance Ministry has confirmed that the claim is false, warning the public not to be taken in by the viral post circulating on social media.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the Finance Ministry said information suggesting that the government has approved RM1,500 cash aid for housewives, single mothers and senior citizens, with applications open from Aug 20 to 25, is false.

The ministry advised the public not to click on any suspicious links and not to provide personal or banking information to any unknown parties.

"Ensure that all information related to government aid and initiatives is verified through official government channels and the Finance Ministry," the ministry said.

The public is reminded that scammers frequently use the names of government ministries and agencies to lend credibility to fake aid announcements, with the goal of stealing personal and banking information from victims.

Any legitimate government aid programme will be announced through official government websites and verified ministry communication channels, not through viral social media posts containing payment links.
