QuickCheck: Was a massive python caught in a college storeroom in Ipoh?

IT may be the Year of the Snake, but most people aren't fond of these slithering reptiles, especially when they appear uninvited in residential areas or college campuses. Recently, there was a claim that a large python was spotted in a college storeroom in Ipoh. Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

A Civil Defence Force spokesman said a 4.5m-long python was captured at the Ipoh Vocational College on Persiaran Brash on Thursday (May 1).

The snake was found in a storeroom by a college staff member at about 9.30pm.

"One of the staff members called the emergency hotline and we rushed over.

"We took about 15 minutes to catch it," he said when contacted.

"The animal has been handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan)," he said, adding that the reptile is believed to have slithered into the premises from a thicket behind the college.
