BULLYING, especially in schools, is very much in focus these days and videos of such incidents often go viral on social media.

One such video making the rounds shows a student kicking a fellow student while another looks on. It is claimed that this is a recent incident that happened in a Malaysian school.

FALSE

Fact-checking portal Sebenarnya.my says the viral video was not recorded in Malaysia.

It said that based on checks by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the video showed a bullying incident that occurred in 2020 in SMP Muhammadiyah Butuh, Purworejo, Indonesia.

Sebenarnya.my also added that the video had previously gone viral in 2023, before being recirculated recently.

"The bullying incident did not happen in Malaysia," Sebenarnya.my said, adding that if social media users were not sure of the authenticity of content, they should not share it.
