QuickCheck: Did TNB issue a notice about an impending power cut in Alor Setar?

FAKE news by irresponsible individuals can create panic, worry or chaos.

Recently, a post on social media claimed that the electricity supply from Anak Bukit to Kepala Batas in Kedah would be cut off due to worsening floods.

So is true that power will be cut off to those areas?

Verdict:

FALSE

In a Facebook post on Saturday (Nov 30), TNB Careline said this was fake news and there is no immediate power cut scheduled.

It urged the public not to believe unverified messages and to halt the spread of false information that could cause unnecessary concern.

However, it said electricity supply would be temporarily cut off only if floods worsen and pose a risk.

"Supply will then be cut off at affected electricity substations to ensure the safety of local consumers," it said.

Reports of power interruptions or TNB asset damage can be made by calling 15454, sending a message to TNB Careline Facebook page, X @Tenaga_Nasional, or via email at tnbcareline@tnb.com.my.
