Recently, photos of a tiger purportedly roaming by the roadside near a water treatment plant in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, went viral on social media.

Is it true that a tiger was spotted roaming around near Tanah Merah?

The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) told the national news agency Bernama that it had not received any reports of a tiger roaming around a water treatment plant in Tanah Merah.

Kelantan Perhilitan director Mohammad Hafid Rohani told Bernama that despite recent viral photos, the department had not received any reports of a wild tiger roaming around the area.

"We have not received any reports about the incident. If it is untrue, please do not share it, as it can cause public concern, especially for those staying in the area.

"Spreading incorrect information can cause fear as the area is near town,” Hafid said when contacted. - Bernama
