QuickCheck: Is a bullying case in Johor recent, as claimed in a viral video?


ANOTHER apparent case of bullying has gone viral on social media, this time with a video said to show a teenager being attacked beside a football field.

It is said the clip was shot recently in Taman Puteri Wangsa in Ulu Tiram, Johor and involved a 17-year-old victim.

Is the video of a recent incident as claimed?

VERDICT:

FALSE

Police have confirmed the incident was not new, as it occurred on May 14 last year.

They also said a report was lodged on the day of the incident.

In a statement, Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat police said the incident involving the boy happened at a shack next to the field.

He said the victim was reportedly beaten up over a misunderstanding with several other individuals, although no injuries were reported.

He added that investigations are still ongoing and urged the public to not speculate or share unverified information to avoid confusion.
