QuickCheck: Did a crane fall and crush a car in Salak Selatan?

A POST on Facebook has been circulating online showing a crane that apparently fell onto a car in Salak Selatan, Cheras.

Is this post new, and did it really happen where it was alleged?

Verdict:

TRUE

According to a statement by the police that was posted on Facebook on Tuesday (Jan 16), the incident happened at 10.40pm on Sunday (Jan 14).

"On Monday (Jan 15), a woman made a report at 12.06am concerning a crane that had lost crane that had lost its balance and crushed her car that was parked at the roadside of Jalan Besar Salak Selatan," said Cheras Asst OCPD Supt Ridzuan Khalid in the statement.

"Preliminary investigations indicated that the crane operator was putting up decorative lights when he lost control of his vehicle, and it toppled over to crush the car parked on the other side of the road.

"No fatalities or injuries were reported, and the incident was classified as RLA (refer to other agency)," he said, adding that he urged members of the public with relevant information to contact the Cheras Police Hotline at 03-9284 5050/5051, or the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999.

The incident first went viral on Monday when a video of it was uploaded to the Warga Salak Selatan/Sri Petaling/Kuchai Lama Facebook Page.
