QuickCheck: Was a domestic helper found chained up in a Kajang flat?


MAIDS, or domestic helpers, are often valued members of the households that employ them to handle tasks such as cooking, cleaning, care-taking and many more. Unfortunately, some employers have made the news in the past for mistreating their maids and subjecting said helpers to abuse.

Recently, it was said that a maid was found chained up by police after residents at a block of flats in Taman Tenaga heard a woman screaming on Sunday (May 21).

Is this true?

A married couple has been detained in connection with an Indonesian domestic helper who was found chained at a flat in Taman Tenaga, says Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

He said that the married couple were in their 40s and 50s and were detained on Wednesday (May 24).

"They have been remanded for two days until Friday (May 26). We are investigating under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement," he said when contacted on Thursday (May 25).

Police personnel that were called in by residents had to break down the door of the flat, before discovering the woman in a weakened state and chained in a bathroom.
