Superbiker killed after crashing into pickup truck on NSE emergency lane

SEREMBAN: A 51-year-old superbiker was killed after he crashed into the rear of a pickup truck, which had stopped abruptly on the emergency lane and was then run over by a trailer lorry.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the victim died in the 4pm accident at KM254.6 of the North-South Expressway on Saturday (June 28).

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the 65-year-old driver of the pickup who was travelling from Rembau to Shah Alam had suddenly applied the brakes while driving on the emergency lane.

"The superbiker who was behind tried to avoid crashing into the vehicle but could not stop in time and crashed into its rear," he said in a statement.

ACP Mohamad Hatta said the impact of the crash caused the victim to fall in the left lane where he was runver by the heavy vehicle.

He said another motorcyclist who also could not stop in time also crashed into the pickup truck.

ACP Mohamad Hatta urged eyewitnesses to contact investigating officer Insp Tiew Chuan Jie at 014-9668399 to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He reminded motorists not to use the emergency lane unless the stretch had been activated as a smart lane.

The lane is only to be used for emergency purposes.
