OVER the years, a claim has flown through the Internet that a Malaysian airline was one of the very first operators of the Boeing 737 in the late 1960s. Is this claim true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

According to a post by Boeing on its official Facebook account, this is in fact true. The manufacturer of the 737 - of which over 11,000 have been built since its first flight in 1967 - confirmed the fact in a post celebrating 75 years of collaborations with airlines in Malaysia and Singapore.

"In 1969, Malaysia Singapore Airlines, the legacy company of Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines, was one of the first customers for the Boeing 737. The airline would ultimately operate seven of the original 737-100s, of which only 30 were built," said Boeing.
