KOTA KINABALU: The state and Federal Governments are strengthening coordination efforts to ensure a stable supply of chicken and eggs in Sabah and ensure consumers obtain them at affordable prices, says Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
Armizan said the coordination covers regulatory aspects of production and distribution, price monitoring and enforcement.
He said the meeting reviewed the current supply and pricing situation for chicken and eggs in Sabah.
He said they also discussed coordinated measures between the state and Federal Governments, including strengthening related regulations.
He said this after chairing the Coordination Meeting on the Stabilisation of Chicken Meat and Egg Supplies in Sabah at the federal Sabah Treasury office here on Monday (Oct 27).
Also present were Sabah Women, Health and People's Wellbeing Minister Datuk Julita Majungki, Sabah Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, as well as representatives from related departments and agencies.
Armizan said the roles of the Veterinary Services Department, Sabah Agriculture Department, Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), other relevant state-level agencies, and the ministry at the federal level need to be aligned according to their respective jurisdictions and responsibilities.
"Such coordination is important so that issues at the production and supply levels can be addressed in tandem with price monitoring and enforcement efforts," he said.
Armizan said the collaboration will also serve as the foundation for a more effective mechanism to address supply and pricing issues through better information-sharing, clearer division of responsibilities, and more effective follow-up actions.
He said close cooperation between the Federal and state governments will continue to be strengthened to ensure the supply of essential goods in Sabah remains secure and accessible to consumers at reasonable prices.
