KUCHING: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been mounted for a teenage boy believed to have been attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Plaie in Sebuyau.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Services Department (Bomba) said the 13-year-old victim from Kampung Plaie was loading oil palm bunches into a boat when the incident occurred on Monday (Oct 26) afternoon.

"The incident was witnessed by the boy's uncle," it said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 27).

It said the SAR commenced on Tuesday morning, involving four boats and 20 personnel from Bomba, police, the Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Civil Defence Force, as well as 20 villagers.

"The search is being conducted within a 2km radius upstream and downstream from where the incident occurred," the statement read.

Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan was also at the scene.
