KOTA KINABALU: Tawau police arrested a 26-year-old foreigner and seized a Colt .45 semi-automatic pistol loaded with three bullets and about 901.35 grams of syabu during a raid at a lodging house on Thursday (Sept 17).
Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Rosdi Mat Jusoh said police also recovered one magazine that was stored in a black plastic bag and hidden inside the room of the house on Jalan Dunlop.
He said the suspect claimed that he had obtained the pistol from a man in another district and was intended to be sold to an individual in a neighbouring country.
“The suspect later led police to a car parked within the house compound. A search of a black sling bag found beneath the driver's seat uncovered a plastic packet containing 901.35 grams of crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine (syabu),” he said.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect admitted ownership of the drugs, he said, adding that the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The suspect is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as relevant provisions under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. He has been remanded for 14 days to assist in further investigations.
He said the raid was carried out by policemen from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) together with the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) of the Tawau District Police Headquarters.
He urged the public to provide information to the police if they were aware of any suspicious activities that could threaten public safety.
In a separate case, ACP Rosdi said three men, aged between 17 and 38, who were involved in a house breaking case in the district were arrested.
He said they also seized tools used for housebreaking activities, he said, adding that one of the suspects was a foreigner illegally staying in the country.
He said the suspects were believed to have broken into a house in Kampung Tanjung Batu Tengah and made away with two laptops, a TV, an Astro decoder, wristwatches, baby items, shoes, handbags, imitation gold jewellery and three fans worth about RM20,000.
