IPOH: A 27-year-old lorry driver was injured after three lorries were involved in a crash on the northbound lane of the North-South Expressway near the Menora Tunnel here.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received a distress call at 8.58am on Friday (Sept 18) regarding the accident at KM257.2 of the expressway.
He said the victim was trapped in the driver’s cabin of a bonded lorry when firefighters arrived at 9.32am.
“The victim was freed using hydraulic rescue tools and handed over to Health Ministry medical personnel for further treatment after sustaining minor injuries to his leg,” he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 18).
He said the accident involved the bonded lorry carrying assorted goods, another lorry carrying beverages and a trailer carrying frozen goods.
He added that the two other men, aged 59 and 33, who were travelling in the other lorry and trailer, escaped from their vehicles on their own and were unhurt.
“The crash blocked all northbound lanes, causing traffic congestion.
“Seven firefighters from the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by personnel from the Kuala Kangsar station, were involved in the rescue operation,” he said.
The operation was brought under control at 10.30am and concluded at 10.54am.
