Public urged to report suspicious activity after attempted Sabah power asset thefts

KOTA KINABALU: Several attempts to steal electrical transformers, among other items, have been recorded in a few locations in Sabah between Oct 25 and Oct 29, says Sabah Electricity.

The utility company said among the areas were at Kg Pahu Tambunan and at the Kg Togudon electrical substation along Jalan Tambunan.

It said that these actions not only destroyed their assets but also disrupted power supply and posed a danger to the public.

It said that immediate action was taken after receiving reports of the damage and attempted theft, including repair and replacement of equipment and parts to minimise the disruption period.

Sabah Electricity warned culprits that their actions were serious and if convicted, vandalism and destruction of assets could result in fines up to RM500,000 or jail term of up to five years, or both.

It urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the Sabah Electricity official hotline at 15444 or 088-515 000, or through the mySE+ application.

“Do not approach or touch these damaged assets to prevent accidents or life risks,” it warned.

It said that these irresponsible actions affect paying customers who depend on a safe and consistent power supply for their daily operations.
