SHAH ALAM: Police are tracking down several more individuals believed to be linked to the discovery of 1.16 tonnes of ketamine aboard a Malaysian-owned vessel, MT Global 168.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the individuals had been identified and were being traced to assist in further investigations.
He said the two individuals arrested earlier had been released on police bail after their remand period expired.
“Recently, we arrested two individuals and their remand period has ended. They have been released on police bail for the time being.
“However, we are tracking down several more individuals to assist in the investigation,” he told reporters at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters NCID evidence disposal ceremony here on Monday (Nov 2).
He added that police were continuing to cooperate with Indonesian authorities to obtain further information on the case.
“The case is still under investigation,” he said.
It was reported earlier that the Malaysian vessel, which was intercepted by Indonesian authorities with 1.16 tonnes of ketamine on board, was believed to have received its drug supply from a foreign mother ship in the Andaman Sea.
The foreign mother ship is believed to have been registered in a country within the Golden Triangle region.
Following this, police arrested two men in their 40s in Johor Baru. They were remanded until Nov 1 to assist in investigations under Section 34 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
One of the men is a company director and the vessel's original owner, while the other is an agent or broker involved in the vessel's sale.
