KUALA LUMPUR: Media personnel have started gathering outside the residence of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at Langgak Duta here, following speculation that he had been granted house arrest.
Checks found that several local and international media personnel began arriving in the area around the residence at about 10am to get the latest developments on the matter.
However, there has been no movement in or out of the residence so far.
A police vehicle was also seen outside the residential area.
Earlier on Friday, media reports that key members of the Federal Territories Pardons Board, including Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh and former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, were seen departing Istana Negara around 9.40am on Friday (Sept 18).
The meeting, chaired by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, began at about 9am and ended about 40 minutes later.
The meeting was also attended by Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.
Yeoh was reported to have arrived at Istana Negara through Gate 2 at about 7.48am, followed by the Attorney General about 10 minutes later.
Najib, 73, began serving his prison sentence in August 2022 after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and 12-year jail term, as well as a RM210mil fine, in the SRC International case.
In 2024, the Pardons Board, then chaired by the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, reduced his prison term to six years and the fine to RM50mil.
The former Umno president was also sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined RM11.4bil in 2025 after being convicted on four charges of abuse of power and 21 charges of money laundering in a separate 1MDB case.
The former Pekan MP is appealing against the conviction and sentence.
