KOTA KINABALU: The battery energy storage system (BESS) is among several strategic projects implemented to improve the stability of Sabah's power grid, says Sabah Electricity (SE).
Its chairman Datuk Saadiah Aziz said a 100-megawatt BESS was among SE's most important projects to increase power capacity and stabilise Sabah’s electricity grid, especially in the east coast.
"Other than the 100MW BESS, we also launched the Sarawak-Sabah power grid interconnection project (with an initial capacity of 50MW) in January," she said when briefing Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman on the company’s achievements and ongoing projects on Monday (Sept 14).
She said that in June, SE launched the first phase of the Southern Link Project, covering a distance of 60km.

In view of the current dry and hot weather, she advised the public to use electricity mindfully to prevent excess load on the grid.
Saadiah said that if the grid has to carry too much supply load, its overall stability could be affected.
During the courtesy call on Musa, she also handed over RM2.18mil business zakat to the Sabah Islamic Religious Council for last year.
She said the zakat payment shows that SE is not only a quality utility company but also one that cares about community wellbeing.
