PETALING JAYA: Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) posted pictures on Sept 4 of the completed Woodlands North station for the Johor Baru-Singapore RTS Link.
The photographs offered a glimpse of the Singapore terminus as the cross-border rail project moves closer to passenger operations.
It also shared photographs of the pick-up and drop-off point, station concourse and areas connecting commuters to the existing Woodlands North MRT station on Singapore’s Thomson-East Coast Line.
On the Malaysian side, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said on Aug 18 that the RTS Link and Bukit Chagar immigration complex had entered the testing and commissioning stage.
He said systems integration tests, final testing and trial runs would be carried out before passenger services begin.
Loke also said the exact operating date and fare would be announced jointly by Malaysia and Singapore, as the RTS Link is a bilateral project.
The official opening date and fare have yet to be announced.
LTA said the colours and design at the pick-up and drop-off area were inspired by trees, reflecting Woodlands’ identity with nature.
The Woodlands North RTS station is connected to the existing MRT station through an underground concourse and will house Customs, Immigration and Quarantine facilities.
The RTS Link spans about 4km between Woodlands North and Bukit Chagar in Johor Baru.
It is designed to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with the train journey between the two stations expected to take about five to six minutes.
A key feature of the service is its co-located immigration facilities.
Passengers will clear both Malaysian and Singapore immigration at their point of departure, allowing them to leave the station upon reaching the other country without undergoing another immigration check.
