JOHOR BARU: The Visit Johor 2026 (VJ2026) campaign will be extended to next year, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Johor Mentri Besar said the state government has already poured RM187mil to build and upgrade tourism products in the state such as the Johor Zoo, Danga Park, Muzium Tokoh Johor and Kampung Sungai Melayu this year.
“We are expecting to spend at least another RM50mil next year to further improve our tourism products.
“Johor has also recorded 4.7 million overnight visitors from January to June, and we are on track to meet our goal of hitting 12 million overnight visitors for this year.
“The state government wants to extend the Visit Johor 2027 campaign, and we hope this will benefit our economic and tourism sectors,” he said at the VJ2026 town hall with industry players at a hotel here on Monday (Oct 26).
Onn Hafiz added that next year is significant to Johor as the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, connecting Johor Baru and Singapore by rail, is expected to start operating in February.
Meanwhile, state unity, heritage and culture committee chairman P. Pannir Selvam, who also attended the event, said the details of the extension would be announced during the Johor Budget presentation next month.
“The extension is also in line with Visit Malaysia 2026, which has been extended until the end of next year,” he added.
Pannir Selvam previously said the proposal came after industry players requested more time to weather global economic pressures and ongoing conflict in the Middle East, as both had increased airfares and disrupted travel.
