Anwar congratulates Lula on election victory

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is looking to strengthen trade and investment ties with Brazil following the election victory of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In his congratulatory message, Anwar described the victory as a hard-fought contest that had given Lula a renewed mandate from the Brazilian people.

He said Lula’s lifelong commitment to social justice, poverty reduction and amplifying the voices of developing countries had earned him respect beyond Brazil.

Anwar said Malaysia looked forward to working closely with Brazil under Lula’s continued leadership, particularly in strengthening bilateral trade and investment, advancing cooperation between Asean and Latin America and deepening the partnership between the two countries.

“I have always valued our friendship, and I share his conviction that the Global South must have a stronger voice in shaping a fairer international order,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 26).
