KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Farmers, Breeders, and Fishermen's Day (HPPNS) 2026 reached its RM1mil sales target, drawing approximately 30,000 visitors during its three-day run in the interior district of Tenom over the weekend.
Sabah Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said individual traders recorded impressive revenues ranging between RM10,000 and RM30,000 over the three days, with most vendors earning at least RM5,000.
"This demonstrates the true potential of the agri-food sector—spanning agriculture, fisheries, and food processing—to generate substantial income for our local communities, particularly in rural areas," Jamawi told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony at Padang Pekan Tenom on Monday (Oct 26).
A highlight of the event was the livestock auction, which saw demand and competitive bidding. A pair of imported Australian Brahman Cross cattle, starting at RM3,300, eventually sold for RM7,700. Additionally, 16 goats fetched an average price of RM1,200 each for eight-month-old livestock—above the standard market rate of RM800 to RM900.
Jamawi announced that his ministry will hold an engagement session with the federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to review the feedback gathered during the event.
"We will carefully examine all findings to refine our programmes across all departments and agencies, ensuring maximum impact for our target groups," he said.
