IPOH: The left lane of the North-South Expressway southbound at KM263.6, about 2km after the Menora Tunnel, has been reopened to all vehicles following a landslide yesterday.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the lane was reopened at 1pm on Saturday (Sept 12) after technical assessments found the slope at the location to be safe.
“The landslide occurred at about 4.30pm on Friday during a downpour and involved part of the slope near the left lane of the expressway,” he said in a statement today.
He said the lane was temporarily closed to allow cleaning, inspection and safety assessment works to be carried out.
“Traffic in both directions was reported to be flowing smoothly after the lane was reopened.
“Repair works on the slope will continue to ensure the area remains safe,” he said.
Comm Mohd Alwi advised motorists to exercise caution when passing through the area, comply with safety instructions and signboards, and reduce their speed, especially during rain or bad weather.
He also urged road users to plan their journeys and obtain the latest traffic information from official channels before setting off.
