Four killed, including two children, in three-vehicle expressway crash near Batu Pahat

BATU PAHAT: Four people, including a five-year-old girl and a nine-month-old baby, were killed in a three-vehicle accident at KM107 of the southbound North-South Expressway here.

The victims were travelling in a four-wheel-drive vehicle when it crashed into the rear of a Scania trailer lorry parked by the roadside.

Pagoh Fire and Rescue Station operation commander Mohd Hafiz Mohd Shahid said the department received an emergency call at 5.19pm on Saturday (Oct 24).

He said seven firefighters were dispatched to the scene and arrived at 5.58pm.

"Four people in the four-wheel-drive vehicle, comprising two elderly women, a five-year-old girl and a nine-month-old baby, were killed in the accident," he said.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, including a man in his 40s, were injured.

One of the injured victims had been taken to hospital by Health Ministry personnel before firefighters arrived.

Two occupants of a car, a 70-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, were also injured in the accident.

The third vehicle involved was a trailer lorry parked by the roadside, whose male occupant escaped unharmed.

Mohd Hafiz said all the victims had been extricated from the vehicles by members of the public before the rescue team arrived.

"No victims were trapped in the wreckage," he said.

He added that firefighters provided initial treatment to the injured before clearing debris from the accident scene.

The bodies of the deceased were subsequently handed over to the police for further action, with the operation ending at 6.11pm.
