A 929sq m plot of land would be provided for Hindu funeral rites and a cremation facility by the Melaka government, Makkal Osai reported.
The matter was announced by MIC president Tan Sri S. Vigneswaran following a meeting with Melaka and Negri Sembilan MIC leaders in Seremban recently.
He said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh had agreed to allocate the land for the facility.
“Three funeral rites halls will be built on the land, which is located near the sea,” he said, adding construction works would begin soon.

Shivani, 28, went missing in May 2024.
Her family identified a decomposed body found at a drain as hers based on a ring and a prayer string found on the remains.
They carried out the final rites and cremated the body, little knowing that Shivani would reappear 27 months later.
Police produced Shivani before a magistrate and reopened investigations into her original disappearance and identifying the victim in the drain.
