Melaka polls: Barisan machinery urged to exercise restraint during campaigning, says Zahid

ISTANBUL: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded all party machinery to exercise restraint and conduct their campaigning responsibly during the 16th Melaka state election.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, said that while campaigning between Barisan and Perikatan Nasional (PN) had intensified, there had also been several clashes that should have been avoided.

"My stand, as well as that of the chairman of the coalition on the other side (Perikatan), is that we should respect what we have mutually agreed upon.

"Although there is no formal agreement, mutual understanding is very important," he told Malaysian media after a pre-meeting with the country's representatives and delegation in conjunction with his working visit to Turkiye here Thursday (Nov 5).

Ahmad Zahid said excessive campaigning, including raising issues unrelated to the state election, would not change the stance or decisions already made by voters.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 14 as polling day for the Melaka state election, while early voting will take place on Nov 10. - Bernama
