PETALING JAYA: The United States Embassy in Malaysia conveyed its condolences over the deaths of five Flying Doctor Service personnel in a helicopter crash near Long Lellang, Baram.
The embassy said the victims were on their way to provide medical care to communities far from cities and hospitals.
“Their mission was one of service, compassion, and duty to their fellow citizens,” it said in a post on X on Wednesday (Sept 9).
The embassy mourned the loss and paid tribute to the victims, who gave their time, skills and ultimately their lives in service to others.
Earlier, Sarawak Police Commissioner Comm Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the bodies of all five victims were recovered from the burnt wreckage during search and recovery operations on Wednesday.
The victims were pilot Capt Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30; Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, 33; medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry, 31; and staff nurses Debra Moset, 40, and Jessie Paya Jok, 44.
The helicopter crashed at 3.21pm on Tuesday (Sept 8) while approaching the Long Lellang STOLport.
