Long Lellang STOLport temporarily closed, flights transferred to Friday, says AirBorneo

KUCHING: The Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport) has been temporarily closed for commercial operations following yesterday's helicopter crash near the airport.

AirBorneo Airways Sdn Bhd (AirBorneo), in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 9), said the closure had resulted in the transfer of two flights scheduled for today to Friday.

The affected flights are MY3602 from Miri to Long Lellang and MY3603 from Long Lellang to Miri.

"We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and cooperation as the relevant authorities carry out the necessary investigations,” it said.

Yesterday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) said a BO-105 helicopter crashed near the Long Lellang STOLport, claiming the lives of five people on board, including the pilot.

CAAM said it received notification of the incident from the Flight Information Service at 3.58pm. - Bernama
