KUCHING: Sarawak-owned AirBorneo Airways Sdn Bhd now offers higher education students flights under the FlySiswa subsidy scheme.
Through this initiative, AirBorneo aims to bridge geographic divides and make it more affordable for students planning to fly home.
Chief executive officer Megat Ardian Aminuddin said AirBorneo's participation in FlySiswa reflected the airline's obligation to community welfare.
"For many young Malaysians studying away from home, particularly between Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo, the cost of flight tickets should never be an obstacle to spending quality time with family.
"We look forward to welcoming thousands of students on board our flights, ensuring they enjoy seamless, reliable and affordable travel home," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 11).
The FlySiswa scheme provides eligible students with a digital voucher worth RM400 to subsidise economy flight tickets for travel between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
Malaysian students can check their eligibility at subsidiudara.mot.gov.my and redeem their voucher when booking flights through AirBorneo's website and mobile app.
The voucher redemption period for AirBorneo flights starts from Tuesday until Nov 30, for travel up to Dec 31.
AirBorneo also said it was offering student perks for FlySiswa bookings, including generous baggage allowance and flexible booking options allowing date changes for free or at a discount.
