IPOH: All six hikers, including two children, who were reportedly lost during a hiking expedition that started in Lojing, Kelantan, have been found by rescuers.
Gerik OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Othman said the hikers were found at Kem Kulim by mountain guides.
“They have been brought to Kampung Lelar at about 8.45pm.
“All six are now being treated at the Pos Kemar health clinic,” he said in a statement last night.
“They are safe and are not injured.”
The hikers are Shafiee Sidek, 49; Hazman Mamat, 43; Wan Ahmad Aslam Wan Zairudin, 39; Siti Zulaiha Norizan, 39; Diya Raisha Wan Ahmad Aslam, 13; and Ahmad Raef Wan Ahmad Aslam, nine.
The four family members and two guides entered the Gunung Trans Gerak area in Lojing on Aug 29 and were scheduled to exit at Pos Kemar, on Sept 3.
The group last made contact on the morning of Sept 1 and was not heard from again, prompting their family members to lodge a police report on Sunday.
On the rescue operation, Supt Abdul Samad said a team of 11 personnel from the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Forestry Department workers and Civil Defence Force had been flown by helicopter to Kem Kulim.
Kem Kulim is located about 4.3km from Gunung Bongok, which would take about two hours to hike.
He said the rescue team reached the hikers and remained at the location overnight.
The operation was initially planned along the trail from Pos Kemar, where the group was supposed to exit.
