PM's Taiwan remarks not discussed by Cabinet, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet did not discuss Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s remarks on Taiwan, which drew a strong rebuke from Taipei, says government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said the issue was not raised during the cabinet meeting.

"It was not discussed," he said at a press conference after the cabinet meeting here on Wednesday (Aug 19).

Fahmi was asked about a statement issued by Taiwan's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday (Aug 18) responding to Anwar's remarks during a recent interview with Al Jazeera.

In the interview, Anwar expressed support for the One China policy and said historical factors should be considered when examining Taiwan's relationship with China.
