A TEACHER in Taichung, Taiwan is at risk of losing her eyesight after a pupil attacked her with a broken broom stick, China Press reported.
It happened during a science camp on Aug 5 when the teacher asked the Grade Six boy to return to his seat after he kept getting up while the class was in session.
The boy, who is believed to be a special needs child, got upset when he was told to do so.
He broke a broom and used the sharp end to attack the 34-year-old teacher, who used her hand to protect herself and fend him off.
The boy reportedly stabbed at her again, hitting her in the eye.
Doctors said she had a ruptured iris, displaced lens and damage to her retina. The tear duct underneath her right eye had also been severed in the attack.
Despite the surgery, doctors said there is a risk she could lose vision in her right eye.
The boy has been temporarily suspended from school.
