KUALA TERENGGANU: A policeman claimed trial in the Sessions Court here Wednesday (Sept 30) to four charges of accepting bribes amounting to RM2,400 four years ago.
Roslee Mamat, 43, a sarjan-mejar with the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division at the Setiu police headquarters, was charged with accepting bribes ranging from RM400 to RM1,000 from an individual as an inducement to provide advance information on police operations or raids, enabling the individual to take precautionary measures or avoid arrest.
The offences were allegedly committed at a bank branch in Shah Alam, Selangor, and Masjid Gong Terap in Setiu in October and December 2022.
The charges were framed under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 24(1), which carries a maximum prison term of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount or value of the bribe, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Judge Azman Mustapha set bail at RM6,000 in one surety and fixed Oct 27 for mention.
Roslee was also ordered to surrender his passport and report to the MACC office every month. – Bernama
