KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has submitted representations objecting to the Election Commission's (EC) proposed review of electoral boundaries in Sarawak, says Deputy Premier Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
However, he said he was unsure how many representations the state ruling coalition made.
"Yes, there are objections," he told reporters after launching the state International Trade, Industry and Investment Ministry's organisational anti-corruption strategy here on Wednesday (Sept 30).
Awang Tengah also called on the EC to study all the representations submitted on its redelineation exercise.
"I want the process conducted in a transparent manner," he added.
The public display of the EC's recommendations in the redelineation exercise ends at 5pm today.
In a statement on Tuesday (Sept 29), the EC said any representation supporting or objecting to the recommendations must be submitted in writing by the deadline.
The EC has received 18 objections as of Sept 23, relating mainly to the moving of polling districts from one state constituency to another.
The redelineation exercise proposes creating 17 new state constituencies, bringing the total from 82 to 99.
It also recommends renaming 10 state seats and one parliamentary constituency.
