KUCHING: Sarawak is confident of attracting more investments this year after recording RM11.2bil in the first six months, says Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
The Deputy Premier said the state continues to engage investors and secure commitments for further funding.
"Several companies have committed to make new investments or to reinvest in their existing operations in Sarawak.
"So I'm confident that our investments will increase," he told reporters after launching the state International Trade, Industry and Investment Ministry's organisational anti-corruption strategy (OACS) here on Wednesday (Sept 30).
For example, he said a Japanese electronics manufacturer was likely to reinvest RM600mil in its Sarawak facility..
In his speech earlier, he said Sarawak approved investments totalling RM16.3bil last year, involving 313 projects with the potential to create 6,500 job opportunities.
He also said the state continued to develop industrial areas, expand market access and provide funding and training to its entrepreneurs.
"The greater the value of investments and projects, the bigger our responsibility.
"Every decision must be made with professionalism, transparency and integrity," he said.
As such, Awang Tengah said the ministry's OACS was a key strategy in identifying risks, strengthening controls and improving work processes.
"But the real test of OACS is not the document itself. The real test is implementation.
"We want to see real change – clearer processes, greater transparency, faster delivery and stronger accountability," he added.
