IPOH: A 41-year-old man was injured after two gunmen fired several shots at his vehicle at a petrol station in Bidor.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the incident occurred at 6.08pm on Tuesday (Sept 29).
He said the victim, a passenger, had arrived at the station in a white Toyota Land Cruiser to refuel when a black Honda City, travelling from the direction of Bidor town, stopped in front of his vehicle.
“Two men, believed to be armed with firearms, then got out of the vehicle and fired several shots at the victim’s vehicle before fleeing,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 30).
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder.
He said five people were in the victim’s vehicle at the time, but the others were unhurt.
“The victim was initially treated at Tapah Hospital before being referred to a hospital in Ipoh and later transferred to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here.
“His condition is reported to be stable,” he said.
Comm Mohd Alwi said the police forensic personnel at the scene recovered a 9mm Luger bullet, four 9mm Luger casings and bullet fragments.
He said several bullet fragments and bullet marks were also found on the victim’s vehicle.
“Police are reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings from several locations, including routes around Bidor and identified toll plazas, to assist in identifying the suspects.
“Further examination and analysis of exhibits related to the case are also being conducted,” he said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 3(1) of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
He urged anyone with information on the incident to come forward and assist with investigations.
“We view the use of firearms seriously and would conduct a thorough investigation to identify and take action against those involved,” he added.
