Thunderstorms, heavy rain to hit nine states till 1am


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds expected to affect several areas in nine states until 1am Saturday (July 18).

In a statement Saturday, MetMalaysia said the warning covers the whole of Melaka, Baling in Kedah, Hulu Perak in Perak, as well as Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai in Kelantan.

The same weather conditions are also forecast for Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang in Terengganu, as well as Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub and Bentong in Pahang.

In Johor, the affected areas are Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian and Johor Baru.

Meanwhile, in Sabah, the warning covers Telupid, Kinabatangan and Sandakan, while in Sarawak it involves Beluru, Telang Usan, Miri and Marudi, as well as Limbang. - Bernama
