KUANTAN: The E-Commerce Bill will be tabled in Parliament at the first meeting next year to strengthen the regulation of online transactions, said Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh.
She said the initial draft of the Bill has been completed and is currently being refined before it is tabled.
"At present, we do not have specific legislation to regulate e-commerce. So, in most cases, we negotiate and act as intermediaries between online entrepreneurs and platform providers," she told a press conference after closing the Retail Access Programme 2026 at a hotel here on Sunday (Oct 18).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling Budget 2027 on Oct 9, said the E-Commerce Bill would be tabled at the next Parliament meeting in an effort to strengthen the accountability of online platforms and sellers.
Fuziah said the Retail Access Programme, which combines training and business matching, has helped 1,862 entrepreneurs from 2023 to October this year.
She said the programme comprised 38 training series and 21 business matching series, involving 103 local brands and 552 stock-keeping units (SKUs).
"This programme allows entrepreneurs to present their products and understand the criteria set by supermarkets, thus identifying opportunities to enter the retail network," she said. – Bernama
