IPOH: About RM30mil in special allocations would be disbursed to Perak for road resurfacing works, says Nga Kor Ming.
The Housing and Local Government Minister said the allocation was sanctioned by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in conjunction with the Perak DAP Convention on Sunday (Oct 18).
Nga, who is state party chairnan, said the money would be used to carry out the road resurfacing works in all residential areas.
"We can resurface about 600 roads in all residential areas.
"Work will start next month and be fully completed before next year's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations," he said in his welcoming speech during the convention.
Separately, Nga welcomed Universiti Malaya's decision not to take disciplinary action against student Ummi Umairah Bakhit, 23, over her remarks about donating to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak recently.
He said the student was merely voicing out the people's sentiments.
"This is the voice of our university students and younger generation, that we should encourage and support," he said.
Ummi had reportedly questioned the act of donating to Najib to raise RM50mil, a condition required under a royal conditional pardon to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, during a dialogue with former minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
