KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated national women's junior doubles pair Low Zi Yu and Genevie Lim on their outstanding achievement in winning the title at the 2026 World Junior Badminton Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

He described their success in ending Malaysia's 34-year wait for the title as a tremendous source of pride and a historic milestone for the sport in the country.

"An achievement to be proud of! Congratulations to Low Zi Yu and Genevie Lim on winning the girls' doubles title at the World Junior Badminton Championships. A new chapter in the history of Malaysian badminton!" he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Oct 18).

Anwar also urged both shuttlers to maintain their excellent form and further enhance the country's standing on the international stage.

"Syabas (well done), keep up the momentum and continue to make Malaysia proud!" he said.

In yesterday's final at the Cairo International Stadium, the second-seeded Malaysians defeated Japan's Nijika Kamata-Shizuku Kashio 15-7, 9-15, 15-12.

The historic win ended Malaysia's 34-year wait for its maiden girls' doubles title since the world junior meet was first held in 1992. – Bernama
