A DIGITAL literacy programme was held at an Ipoh school in Perak to enhance pupils’ communication and media skills.
The StratCom Jr Programme, jointly organised by SK St Michael and Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk), aimed to strengthen responsible use of information technology.
PKNPk chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak said the programme provided pupils with exposure to digital literacy, critical thinking as well as modern communication and media skills.
“Today’s generation is growing up in a world shaped by technology and social media.
“We want the new generation to see technology as more than just a medium for accessing information or entertainment.
“They also need to understand information, assess what they receive and utilise technology wisely and responsibly.”
He said exposure to media and communication skills should begin at an early stage to build a strong foundation in media literacy, which would help develop critical thinking and strengthen young Malaysians’ ability to communicate responsibly.
Redza Rafiq said the programme also focused on strengthening teachers’ and school clubs’ skills in preparing, managing and producing content.
“This will help develop pupils’ communication skills to receive, assess, filter and communicate information across various digital platforms,” he said, adding that the collaboration started in 2024.
During the event, Redza Rafiq launched the school’s Green Studio that enabled pupils to create and edit content, conduct research and present information in an interactive and engaging environment.
PKNPk also contributed an iPhone 15 together with a set of media accessories to support the school’s media team in producing higher-quality digital content and documenting various school activities.
Redza Rafiq said PKNPk’s role was not only about building industries, but also attracting investments and creating economic opportunities.
“Our role also extends to supporting talent development and people-centric initiatives in line with the Perak Sejahtera 2030 aspiration.”
