PJ police tracking down driver who hit van operator during argument

PETALING JAYA: An altercation between a van driver and a motorist left one man injured after he was struck by a vehicle, police said.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the incident was reported to police on Saturday (Oct 17).

"Preliminary investigations revealed that an argument broke out between the two drivers while on the road. The van driver, a man in his 20s, subsequently stopped his vehicle and asked the car driver to step out," ACP Shamsudin said.

"Instead, the car driver stepped on the accelerator and struck the van driver’s right leg, causing him to fall onto the road and sustain injuries to his elbow and knee," he added.

ACP Shamsudin said the case is being investigated under Section 334 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt on provocation, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1995.

Police are currently tracking down the car driver to assist in the investigation.

"We urge the public not to speculate on the incident," he said, requesting anyone with information to contact the nearest police station or call the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters hotline at 03-7966 2222.
