Six-car crash kills five-year-old in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: A five-year-old girl was killed after the car she was travelling in with her father was involved in a six-vehicle crash along Jalan Kuching here.

The girl, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the accident occurred at about 3.44pm on Saturday (Oct 10) during slow-moving traffic from the city centre towards Segambut.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the car occupied by the victim, driven by a 30-year-old father, had been hit from behind by another car.

“The collision also involved a motorcycle before the victim's vehicle spun into the right lane and collided with three other vehicles,” he said in a statement on Monday.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the victim's father suffered injuries to his right hand, while the 33-year-old motorcyclist sustained head injuries.

Both were treated at the same hospital.

He added that the drivers of three other vehicles were unhurt.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said police had tracked down a 24-year-old driver who hit the victim's car from behind and fled the scene of the accident.

“The driver is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Damansara for a concussion and remains under the observation of the investigating officer,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged members of the public or witnesses with information about the incident to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or visit any nearby police station to assist in the investigation.
