Pakatan lawmaker reprimanded over snide remarks on Johor polls results

KUALA LUMPUR: A Pakatan Harapan lawmaker was reprimanded for his snide remarks on the Johor polls results in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (July 13).

Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) had said “Well done and congratulations to Perikatan Nasional and PAS. Condolences to BN (Barisan Nasional).”

“Eh it is the other way around. Congratulations Barisan Nasional, Condolences to Perikatan Nasional and PAS,” he added.

Mohd Sany had directed the remarks to Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who is also the secretary-general of Barisan Nasional during a supplementary question.

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor who was presiding over the sitting then issued a stern warning to Mohd Sany, citing the Standing Order 36(10)(c) which prohibits Members of Parliament from using words or making statements which is likely to promote feelings of ill-will or hostility.

“I am giving a warning. I hope this won’t be repeated. There is a limit to patience,”  Ramli said before inviting Zambry to respond to the question.

Zambry responded by saying he had no intention of addressing political questions as he wished to focus on his ministerial matters.

“Anyway thank you for correcting what was said,” Zambry said before proceeding to answer the question at hand.
