KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has suspended the use of orange lock-up attire for suspects brought to court for remand proceedings with immediate effect.
Its chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the decision followed recent developments and recommendations concerning the procedures for handling suspects, particularly when they are brought before the court.
"Suspects are allowed to wear their own clothes when brought to court, while (the orange) attire will only be worn during the period they are detained in the lock-up," he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 4).

He said the use of handcuffs would depend on the circumstances.
However, handcuffs would not be used on elderly suspects, children, persons with disabilities and those who are frail, he added.
Abd Halim said MACC would continue to take precautionary measures and ensure appropriate security controls were in place throughout the handling of suspects.
"MACC remains committed to ensuring that all actions taken in handling suspects are carried out professionally, with integrity and prudence, and in accordance with the law and established procedures," he said.
